About Joy van Hemert

Joy van Hemert began writing in 1992, when she discovered several magical principles. At first she made photocopies of her podium talks. As demand for her booklets increased, she formed a business alliance and jointly founded the ReadMeFirst Books Press.

Born in Michigan, Joy van Hemert grew up in Western Canada, and studied Ikebana in Tokyo before settling in Connecticut. Her gallery showings include "Windows" at The Art Gallery of Vancouver Public Library.

Joy van Hemert's wavy images reflect the fluidity of imagination added to the simple items and scenes of every day life. "Appreciation is the act of creation.

Add anything, and you have less," says Joy. "So the art patron and the Sunday afternoon museum wanderer participate in the act of creation along with the artist."

Joy van Hemert paints with BRAWG, Black Rock Working Artists Group, who meet to share ideas, working time, and, of course, snacks. Besides working on canvas, Joy designs and paints murals.
